The Last Supper Small

Leonardo Da’Vinci’s painting of The Last Supper is one of the most familiar and well-loved images in Christian art. Sculptor Sondra L. Jonson has created a remarkably faithful sculpture of the iconic image. Jonson crafted this sculpture for the new altar at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ulysses, Nebraska. It beautifully and gracefully reflects the magnificent moment when Christ instituted the Holy Eucharist on the eve of His Crucifixion.

The apostles seated in the image from left to right are: Bartholomew, James the Lesser, Andrew, Judas, Peter, John, Thomas, James the Greater, Phillip, Mathew, Jude Thaddeus and Simon the Zealot.

Jonson created The Last Supper in two sizes. In the larger (altar) size, she added unique details: the tapestries that line the walls to the left and right of the Passover table display scenes from the Gospels: the baptism of Christ, the meeting with the woman at the well, the raising of Lazarus, the agony in the garden, the miracle at Cana, the woman forgiven of adultery, Jesus walking on water, and Calvary.
